Duckduckgo Removal Instructions

Duckduckgo, also known as, is a browser hijacker that is promoted via a potentially unwanted application. Once it enters your system, it changes your browser settings, namely your home page and default search provider.

The website itself is not malicious, so you should not be worried that it appears on your screen. The legitimate search engine was launched in 2008 and it is still offered as one of the default choices in Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Internet Explorer. The problem arises when you are not the one making that choice. If a potentially unwanted program has entered your system and hijacked your browsers, you should terminate Duckduckgo as soon as you can.

How does Duckduckgo work?

Once your settings get modified, you will see every time you open your browsers. The site has a logo and a search box in its center. The search engine collects results from DuckDuckBot, which is a web crawler, as well as other sources like Bing, Yandex, Wikipedia, etc. The page states that the engine does not track your cookies, however, there is no way to know that for sure. In fact, it is highly unlikely, since it took over your browser without your permission in the first place. If Duckduckgo came as a part of a potentially unwanted application, there is no reason for you to trust it at all. We suggest you delete Duckduckgo from your system.

If you are wondering how or when you allowed the unwanted program to get installed onto your PC, you should think of the last time you downloaded freeware. When you install free software you are often offered to acquire additional applications that are usually completely worthless. If you do not specifically decline these offers, you unwittingly allow the applications to get installed. Next time make sure you pay attention to the installation wizard and deselect all unnecessary software from the list.

none of the anti malware programs is able to remove the stamplive adware from my computer. I’m afraid the only solution will be to go back to factory settings.

I had price minus ads popping up often in all webpages. It was driving me nuts.! I removed an extension from my browser (Firefox). I started deleting the extensions that I knew were not vital. And no more popups! I do have a couple of malware programs, and they too failed to remove these ads. But removing the extensions from Firefox + the add-ons section its what did the trick! I also did the same thing to google chrome browser, I deleted some add-ons, and extensions as well.
