Cryptofortress Removal Guide

Cryptofortress is a ransomware application that can take over your system without your permission. It is very similar to other malicious programs of this type such as TorrentLocker, Cryptolocker, CryptoDefense and some others. The infection gets distributed with the help of spam email attachments, fake downloads, corrupted links and so on. Once it gets inside your system, it starts encrypting your files. As soon as they get encrypted you are presented with a notification that claims you need to make a payment of $300 in order to restore your data.

Do not believe this misleading message as there is no reason for you to waste money in such a way. The cyber criminals will not decrypt your files even if you do make the transfer. What you should do instead is get rid of Cryptofortress and restore your files yourself. This article will help you with that.

How does Cryptofortress work?

Cryptofortress starts encrypting your files as soon as it enters your computer by adding a .frtrss extension to them. It scans your drives and affects all files including photos, videos, documents, .zip, .ppt, .dll files and more. That is why it is always important to have back ups of your data, so that you can easily restore it in case something like this happens. The ransom note that will appear on your screen after the encryption claims that you need to make a payment in Bitcoins in order to receive a private key that is supposed to allow you to restore your data. It may even suggest that you can decrypt two selected files as a proof that it works. Nevertheless, we would never recommend that you make that payment, because you would be wasting your money on something that is not very likely to be the solution to your problem. You can terminate Cryptofortress yourself. Before you do, however, you should try to restore your files. You should look for software decryption tools online and use one of them to regain access to your data.

none of the anti malware programs is able to remove the stamplive adware from my computer. I’m afraid the only solution will be to go back to factory settings.

I had price minus ads popping up often in all webpages. It was driving me nuts.! I removed an extension from my browser (Firefox). I started deleting the extensions that I knew were not vital. And no more popups! I do have a couple of malware programs, and they too failed to remove these ads. But removing the extensions from Firefox + the add-ons section its what did the trick! I also did the same thing to google chrome browser, I deleted some add-ons, and extensions as well.
